This video of my advice for parents of autistic children was created by the fabulous disability rights activist team of Norm Kunc and Emma Van der Klift for their Conversations that Matter video series, using footage from an extensive interview that Norm conducted with me in 2015.
I wasn’t out as trans yet (not even to myself) when this video was made, and it’s hard for me to watch myself carrying so much ill-fitting faux masculinity in this video. But the video has been watched by thousands of parents, students, and professionals over the years, and I still regularly hear from viewers who tell me that it helped them and helped the autistic children in their lives.
Norm & Emma also used footage from this same interview to create this other video about autism, empathy, and theory of mind.
